I applied Kakishibu to the kasa. This photo shows it after three coats.
Kakishibu has long been used as a traditional coating to strengthen and add water resistance to materials such as paper, cloth, wood, and bamboo.
What I find most beautiful about Kakishibu is how its color deepens and develops a rich, subdued tone over time with sunlight and age.
Once it has dried enough, I will finish the paper edge of the kasa and list this beautiful piece in my shop.
