DIY Notebook Cover from a Plastic Folder

I've been seeing these DIY notebook covers all over social media lately, and I was curious to try one myself. So I picked up a plastic folder from a 100-yen shop and turned it into a notebook cover.

First, I punched holes along the center fold of the folder, where the notebook spine sits.

Many people seem to follow the Traveler's Notebook style and make three holes, but I decided to make only two—just enough for the elastic bands that hold the notebooks in place. Since I already had eyelets and a setting tool for my craft work, I reinforced the holes with eyelets, which also added a decorative touch.

For the zipper pocket, I positioned it so that it would sit on the front cover of the notebook, on the left side when opened. I felt that arrangement would be more practical for everyday use.

As for the third hole that is usually used for the closing elastic, I took a different approach. I punched a hole in the folder's tab section and threaded an elastic cord through it to create a closure band.

And of course, I couldn't resist adding a charm to the elastic closure, just like many Traveler's Notebook enthusiasts do!

Until now, I had been carrying my pens, glue, and other supplies in a plastic folder that was the same size as my notebook, so I moved everything into this new cover.

Items that I don't use very often—such as stamps, which I like to keep on hand just in case—go on the right side, where I can fully open the zipper pocket for easy access.

On the left side, I keep the things I reach for most often: pens, glue, sticky notes, and other everyday essentials. Most of the time, I only need to open the left half of the pocket, which makes it quick and convenient to use.
