I have worked with Takuhatsu gasa before, and this time I am beginning a new process:applying washi paper over the bamboo surface and finishing it in the ikkanbari style. Ikkanbari is a traditional Japanese method of layering washi paper to create strength and a unique surface texture.

At the moment, the piece is still in the first underlayer stage. Each sheet of washi is carefully applied, gently shaping and strengthening the bamboo beneath.

The final form is still some way ahead, but this early stage is essential—it quietly determines the strength and presence of the hat.

I will continue to share small updates as the work progresses.I hope you enjoy following the journey toward its completion. -Nat
