The other day, I visited Akagami Nio-sama to offer a pair of straw sandals in gratitude. (→ Read more about Akagami Nio-sama here.)

As I get older, there are days when my health feels a little unpredictable. Still, I'm grateful that I'm generally doing well. At least my recent blood test results weren't too bad, which was reassuring.

When I stopped to think about it, I realized how fascinating this tradition is. Offering straw sandals as a token of thanks is quite unique.

According to the tradition, Akagami Nio-sama travels far and wide to protect people's health. Because of those long journeys, worshippers offer new straw sandals so that the deity will always have a fresh pair to wear.

It's a lovely reminder for me as well. I hope to keep walking, stay active, and take good care of my own health every day. Nat
