Visiting the Red Paper Nio Guardians

About three weeks ago, I stopped by Tohkakuji Temple in Tabata on my way to a fabric shop.

I had wanted to visit the famous “Red Paper Nio Guardians.”

At that time, I had been dealing with a persistent cough, and I was also worried about my chronic illness.

From the large ticket gate at Tabata Station, you turn left, walk along the cut-through road, and turn right at the second traffic light. That is where Tohkakuji Temple stands.

There are the Nio guardian statues covered with countless pieces of red paper. The place carries the wishes and prayers of many people seeking healing.

Next to the temple, there was also a very small pathway leading to a Hachiman shrine. It felt almost like a path into another world — quiet, hidden, and a little mysterious.

And after this visit, about a week later, my cough finally stopped.

As for my chronic condition, it is still too early to know much, and I am currently under observation.Last Thursday, I spoke with my doctor again about medication and test results.

Still, the blood test results were better than I expected. Aside from the side effects of my rheumatoid arthritis medication, there were no signs of illness, looks healthy.

It made me feel relieved.

I am planning to visit the temple again soon to give thanks.I even bought a pair of straw sandals for the visit. This seems to be the original appearance of the Nio guardian hidden beneath all the red paper.

Standing there quietly for so many years, carrying the wishes and prayers of countless visitors. Nat
