This five coloured hair brush, SHIKA -no Makifude is a traditional brush with a long history, originally made from the hair of sacred deer (shika in Japanese) at Kasuga Taisha in Nara for writing prayers and wishes.

The core is soft deer hair, and the outer bristles are dyed in five colors for a perfect balance.

Today, it is crafted by the historic brushmaker Akashiya, preserving centuries-old techniques. Using this brush is said to bring success in studies, prosperity in business, and harmony to the home—an auspicious choice for calligraphy and spiritual practice.

鹿の巻筆は古来より奈良、春日大社において祝詞、願文などを書くのに神鹿の毛を用いて作られたと言われています。芯に鹿の毛を用い、外側を5色に染めた毛を上毛として調整したもので、この筆を使用することは、学業上達、商売繁盛、家庭隆盛につながり、縁起のよいこととされています。
