The lantern has the kanji ???? ("Thunder Gate") written on it.On the left side of the gate stands F?jin (???_, God of Wind) and on the right side is Raijin (???_, God of Thunder).You can see many similar gates of Shrines and temples in all over Japan. The gods are protecting the shrines and temples from evils, and they are symbols of the balance and harmony of nature.
